Ride report from Catherine
Today I could have done painting of the spare room. Instead, I decided to turn up at Bromley South station at 8.30am and I’m so glad I did. I joined Andrew, Trevor, Geoff and Bob (who sadly had to drop out with a broken spoke and warped wheel) to embark on an intrepid journey to Folkestone.
What a fantastic day! It was a wonderful route of remarkably quiet roads, at a perfect pace. We stopped for lunch in Frittenden, where, with little frittering we were served pretty spectacular sandwiches and a ploughman’s lunch. Replenished and refreshed, we continued onward across golden fields of corn and wild poppies towards Hythe where we finally saw the sea and finally the station at Folkestone.
Two trains later, and we arrived at Shortlands Tavern, where to my delight, Aspall’s cider was available on tap, coupled with some very tasty chunky chips. Having put the world to rights, we all went our separate ways.
I am still smiling from a great day. Many thanks to Andrew for organising the route. I would really recommend going on a future Saturday ride with this group, great company and great fun.
