Cycle parking doubled for Bromley South station
Cyclists and commuters are set to benefit from new cycle parking facilities adjacent to Bromley South station.
The additional cycle parking spaces has doubled the capacity for cyclists at the station, from 50 to 100 spaces. While conveniently located for commuters, shoppers and visitors to the centre of Bromley, the secure, sheltered facilities will encourage further cycle travel in the borough. With funding from Southeastern and Transport for London, the new cycle parking was officially opened at the summer’s final Biking Bromley event, which featured a range of cycle related services and information.
“As a council, we try to be supportive of cycling initiatives and will continue to work with others to assist wherever we can within the limitation of tightly squeezed budgets. Those who choose to cycle, find it’s a very convenient way to travel and help us all by reducing congestion and the associated pollution it produces on our roads. If you are fed up getting ripped off at the petrol pumps, every time you fill up yourself, why not consider joining them and giving it a go?” said Councillor Colin Smith, Executive Councillor for Environment.
Nina Peak, Partnership Manager, Southeastern, said “The new cycle parking facilities will provide commuters who want to combine rail travel with pedal power, with a secure place to leave their bikes. We are always keen to improve facilities at our stations and we’re delighted to have the new cycle stands – I’m sure passengers will make good use of them.”
Security of the cycle parking facilities have been enhanced by a single entry / exit point, CCTV and lighting.
The Biking Bromley events support local residents in cycling. The three year project will improve infrastructure, parking and cycle promotions in a bid to encourage greater numbers of cyclists in Bromley.
