WWW – The Change of Horses

Wed 29 Aug 2013

Ten of us departed from Bromley South, there was just one new-comer this evening we were pleased to welcome Glynn’s friend Mark. James, Mark and Glen went on their own longer ride and then joined us in the pub, this seems to be becoming an established format and works well. In the evening Sunshine Spencer led the main ride out at a very sensible pace through Shortlands and to West Wickham where we tackled a few hills towards the Warren and Coney Hall. Behind the Warren there is a footpath which leads to Keston Common. It was dark under the trees, summer is nearly gone.

From Keston Common we made our way to Hayes and then past Baston School and the Bromley Rugby Club. We crossed the A21 at Farnborough and went through Farnborough Park and behind the Princess Royal before re-crossing the A21, dropping into Farnborough Village and arriving at the Change of Horses. The pub was empty until we arrived. We were joined by Steve and Mel and later by two more riders who had missed us at Bromley South and later again by James, Glen and Mark. So we were a crowd.

We settled in the pub and discussed things cycling. Spencer was anxious about the marshalling for the protest next Monday, 15 of us will be involved from Bromley Cyclists. We also mulled over the councils recent invitation to Mr Andrew Gilligan to attend a meeting to discuss cycling in the borough. We wait to learn whether he will accept the invitation.

We were pleased to know that Tim had moved to a new employer in the Kings Cross area, I cannot recall who the employer is but he/they seem to have very positive cycling credentials. Tim also kindly agreed to have a look at his Danson Park ride again and see if it could be re-run but to a different final location after the disappointment of the pub last time.

A very pleasant Wander and once again a very good turnout.
