As we gathered outside Bromley South Station Tessa’s phone rang and it was Linda with a puncture in Hayes Lane. As we were heading in completely the opposite direction we left Linda to phone home and deal with her dilema, while we headed towards Jubilee Park for our ten miler to the pub.
Eve leading tonight. Once out of Jubilee Park we crossed the railway bridge and headed for the woods at the bottom of Birchwood Road. There is quite a nice bridle path leading up to the Chislehurst Road, but unfortunately no cycling on the path that leads onto it.
The path wasn’t too bad considering the recent rain and we enjoyed a nice ride through the woods, then it was right to Poverest Road and cutting through to Friars Road to avoid the busier roads, we made our way down to the Sevenoaks Way and across onto the Greenway. We followed the river for some time before rejoining the road and then made our way through St. Mary Cray and down to Crittals Corner. From here we joined the cycle path up to St. Marys roundabout and then down Old Perry Street and on to the pub.
Linda joined us some time later in the car having been picked up from Hayes Lane. Some wheel changing lessons are on the agenda for the summer.
A good evening followed, Tessa entertaining us with her recent exploits in Scotland and Michael with his recent coaching exam. Then it was scoring for pub of the month, The Queens Head might do well in this.
Before we knew it it was time for the ride home. For me not too far but it was quite cold cycling up through the woods to Petts Wood.
See you all next week – The White Bear, Fickleshole, so a good ride. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us.
