Tonbridge to Penshurst and beyond

Some of us met at Orpington station for the 10.02 train to Tonbridge, while other riders cycled to Tonbridge to meet us for the start of our ride.  Through Haysden Country Park, past Barden Lake we cycled, through beautiful traffic free countryside,  woods and over  rivers, until we reached the Penshurst Estate.  Now a long uphill climb, but it was worth it for the views over the Kent countryside and Penshurst Place.  The long downhill brought us into Penshurst and Quaintways Tea Rooms, where we stopped for our morning coffee and cake.  It seemed that many other cyclists had thought the same as we looked for a space to lock up our bikes.

From here we continued our somewhat hilly ride up to Mark Beech, Chiddingstone Hoath, Chiddingstone before continuing to Chiddingstone Causeway and The Little Brown Jug for lunch.  The sun shone as we enjoyed our lunch in the gardens, almost too hot.

After lunch it was back to Penshurst and Haysden Country Park where we couldn’t resist an ice cream before returning to Tonbridge station and home.   Well done to Mike, Nev, Paula and Steve who then cycled back home from Tonbridge.  A 30 mile ride for some and a 70 mile ride for others.

Thanks to everyone who came, we hope to see you on future Bromley Cyclists ride soon.
